I just finished watching UNDERFIST. In it Fred Fredburger asks Erwin if he wants to play and Erwin responds "No" then Fred Fredburger exclaims "That's the problem... no one wants to play anymore!" and though this may have been intended as a joke, it struck me more as a hard truth. It seems that youth these days are growing up too fast. I'm 14... I still watch cartoons and play games that are somehow considered "girly" to my classmates. Kirby, Sonic, Mario? How have these iconic characters gone from the coolest guys around to "girly"? I mean what has happened to society? No one wants to play anymore... it's all about appearing older, wiser, and stronger. I watched a documentary recently called 'Darkon' and someone was talking about how it's all right for kids to play with toys yet when adults do it's all right to mock them. But what truly is a kid any more? I see six year old girls walking around exact mimics of their uptight mothers. When is the line crossed between adult and child? I hear parents asking their children to act their age, but how should one act in this mixed up world where children act like adults and adults act like children?
